Happily Ever After....But a Moment

My oldest daughter like most four year olds is all about the Disney princesses. She loves to dress as one, she claims her daddy is her prince, and at night one of the princess stories is almost always selected for the night's reading. There's some speculation and concern out there about little girls' obsession with the princess culture for a variety of reasons, but the question my daughter asked that gave me reason to pause and think a moment was the question, "Will I live happily ever after, Mommy?"

I believe happiness is a choice we choose but even so there are challenges that we will all face throughout our lives that will challenge our faith, our love, our very happiness. I pray everyday that my girls live long, happy lives. I hope they experience falling in love; that they experience the joy of starting their own families. So when it comes to living happily ever after here's my answer dear child, son or daughter.

Happily ever after exists in the moment you gaze into the eyes of the person you love and vow your love to one another.

Happily ever after exists in the moment you watch your loved one fall head over heals in love with your child.

Happily ever after is in the moments of watching your daughter dance on daddy's toes and your son call  mommy his princess.

Happily ever after exists in the moment you are all together laughing and joking around the dinner table.

Happily ever after is in the moments in the backyard camped out together around the campfire or under the evening stars.

Happily ever after exists in the moments that laughter fills your house.

Happily ever after exists in the moments you see your son hit the ball out of the park, see your daughter dressed for her first dance, watch your child walk across the stage for graduation.

Happily ever after exists in the moments you celebrate the beautiful, successful people your children have become.

Happily ever after exists in the moments your children with their children gather in your home.

Happily ever after exists in the moments you enjoy the quiet of one another's company.

Sweet child, happily ever after are random moments that happen over and over again throughout your life. In between the moments there may be sadness and doubt but hopefully in the end you have lived enough happily ever moments to make your story complete.

“And, while Cinderella and her prince did live happily ever after, the point, is that they lived.”
